The Fairhaven Protecting Society was organized in 1887 as an association of volunteers.

The Protecting Society worked along side the fire department by going into buildings after the fire fighters left, to try to save household goods. The Fairhaven Protecting Society moved into the Washington Street building in 1894. The Washington Street building also served as the Town's first jail !

Today the Fairhaven Protecting Society is made up of volunteers who help maintain the Town's antique fire apparatus along with the Fairhaven Historical Commission.
The antique trucks are used for parades and special events in town and are stored in the Spring Street Firehouse and the Washington Street Firehouse,Important Links:
